📸 Scanning Your Receipts

Digitizing your receipts is the first step to effortless expense tracking. Receiptr uses a powerful document scanner to get clear, accurate images for processing.

🎯 Accessing the Scanner

From the main navigation bar at the bottom of the screen, tap the Scan icon.

The scanner interface will open, ready to capture your receipt.

📱 Using the Document Scanner

The built-in document scanner is optimized for capturing receipts. It automatically detects the edges of the receipt, crops the image, and corrects perspective.

  1. Place your receipt on a flat surface with good lighting.
  2. Hold your phone's camera over the receipt.
  3. Align the receipt within the camera frame. The scanner will highlight the detected edges with a border.

  1. Once the edges are correctly detected and the image appears sharp, the scanner may automatically capture the photo. If not, tap the Capture button (usually a circular icon).

🔄 Scan Modes

Receiptr offers three different scanning modes to handle different types of receipt scanning needs:

Single Mode (Free Plan)

Perfect for capturing a standard-sized receipt that fits entirely within one camera scan. This is the default mode available to all users.

  • Best for: Regular receipts that fit in one camera frame
  • Features: Basic document scanning with edge detection and perspective correction
  • Plan requirement: Available on all plans

Multi Mode (Premium Feature)

Use this for very long receipts that don't fit in a single camera screen. You can capture multiple sections of the same receipt, and the app will intelligently stitch them together into one complete image for processing.

  • Best for: Long receipts from grocery stores or detailed itemized receipts
  • Features: Multiple image capture with automatic stitching
  • Plan requirement: Premium or Unlimited plan

Batch Mode (Unlimited Feature)

Process multiple separate receipts at once by selecting them from your gallery. This mode is designed for users who need to process many receipts efficiently.

  • Best for: Processing multiple receipts from a business trip or monthly expenses
  • Features: Process up to 20 separate receipts simultaneously with progress tracking
  • Plan requirement: Unlimited plan

Toggle between these modes using the mode selector at the top of the scanner screen.

If you've already taken pictures of receipts with your phone's standard camera app, you can import them into Receiptr for processing:

  1. On the scanner screen, tap the Gallery or Import icon.

  1. Select the receipt image(s) from your device's photo gallery.
  • Single Mode: Select one image
  • Multi Mode: Select multiple images of the same receipt for stitching
  • Batch Mode: Select up to 20 separate receipt images for batch processing
  1. Tap Done or Select.

The selected image(s) will be imported and processed according to the selected mode.

✨ Image Quality Analysis

After you capture or import an image, Receiptr quickly checks its quality, including detecting blur. A clear, sharp image is very important for the app's AI to accurately read the details on the receipt.

  • If the image is detected as blurry, you may see a warning message.
  • You'll have the option to Retake Photo (recommended for best results) or Use Anyway.

For the most accurate results from the AI, always try to take sharp, well-lit pictures of your receipts.

⚡ What Happens Next?

Once you approve the scanned or imported image(s), Receiptr begins processing them. This involves:

  1. Image Upload: Securely uploading the image(s) to the cloud
  2. AI Processing: Using artificial intelligence to read and extract information like the merchant, date, total, and items
  3. Data Extraction: Creating digital receipt entries with the extracted details
  4. Progress Tracking: Real-time updates on processing status

Processing Status

You can monitor the processing progress through:

  • Status indicators: Visual feedback showing Pending, Processing, Completed, Failed, or Cancelled
  • Progress bars: Real-time progress for individual receipts and batch operations
  • Notifications: Updates when processing completes or encounters errors

This process usually happens in the background, and you can continue using other parts of the app while your receipts are being processed.
